Genital warts treatment

This genital warts treatment is a cream that works to help your immune system so that it can fight the wart virus.  You should not have any sexual contact while the cream is applied on your skin.  Not only can this weaken the condom and diaphragms used, but it can also be irritating to your partner’s skin.

Podophyllin and podofilox (Condylox):

Podophyllin is plant based resin that your doctor will apply. This medication will work to destroy the genital wart tissue. Podofilox is made of the same type of plant based resin but is a medication that you can safely apply yourself after the first application by your doctor.  The reason for this is that your doctor will want to carefully explain the need to keep it away from the rest of your skin. Furthermore, it is very important to know that you should never put this medication inside of you or take it al all if you are pregnant.

Trichloroacetic acid (TCA).

This is another topical medication that can only be applied by your doctor, and it works by burning off your wart.

Surgery

Another type of genital warts treatment is to have surgery to get rid of the larger warts.  These will be the warts that that will not respond to medications.  Furthermore, women that are pregnant will typically have this surgery because of the risk of exposing the baby to the virus.

Surgery Options

•    Freezing with liquid nitrogen (cryotherapy): This freezes the wart and makes it blister up around the wart, and when your skin gets better the blister will come off allowing for new skin growth.

•    Electrocautery:  This is a treatment where an electrical current is used to burn off the wart.

Surgical excision:

This treatment is where you doctor will cut off the wart directly.  However, for this you will need a local anesthesia for pain.

Laser Treatment:

This particular genital warts treatment will use a beam of light that is very strong to burn off the wart. However, this method is most always very expensive and turned to only for those warts that are massive and hard to treat.
